About TypeTest
TypeTest is a calm, accurate typing speed test. Type for 30, 60, 120 or 180 seconds, or type a whole passage from a classic book, and see your speed, your accuracy and the keys you miss most. No sign-up, no ads, no tracking.
How Your Results Are Calculated
- A word is any 5 characters, including spaces. The timer starts on your first key, and paused time is not counted.
- Gross WPM is every character you typed (including ones you deleted), divided by 5, per minute.
- Net WPM, the big number, is Gross WPM minus the mistakes still left in your text, per minute. It never goes below 0.
- Accuracy is the share of your keystrokes that were right when you typed them. A mistake you fixed still counts against accuracy, but not against Net WPM.
- CPM is the correct characters in your final text, per minute.
- Results above 250 WPM, or with unusually even keystroke timing, are saved with a flag and never count as a personal best.
